These are some of the questions that we are asked the most about our English courses. If you cannot find the information that you are looking for here, please contact us!
- Where do your students come from and how old are they?
Our students come from all over the world and all walks of life, so the classes are a mix of all nationalities and ages.
The average age is around 25-30 but we accept students from 16-60. We also accept students from 12-17 on school tours and during summer. - Can I get a free trial lesson?
It´s not possible to get free trial lessons. Having students entering and leaving classes to see if they like them disrupts the class. This is not fair on the students who have already paid for an English Course. - Do I get free Internet access?
Yes! We have PC's with high speed Internet access and if you have your own laptop you can enjoy free high speed Internet access. - How close is the accommodation to the school?
We have an extensive network of host families in the Northside suburbs and in the city centre, which our Accommodation Officers have visited and approved. Some of these families have been hosting our students since we opened and are known for their warmth and hospitality.
Many of our families are within 20-25 minutes of the school, and are easily accessed by foot or a short bus journey/ light rail journey. Accommodation is half board (bed, breakfast and evening meal). Prices start from €175 Euro per week and there is an accommodation placement fee of €50 per person.
We also offer self-catering hostel accommodation. Should a student prefer to stay in a guesthouse or hotel or apartment, this can be arranged also. - What is not included in the Course fees?
Course books are not included in the Course fees. We use the suite of books “Cutting Edge” for General English and “Market Leader” for Business English classes.
We also use supplementary exercises from other reference books but photocopies of those are provided free. Students must purchase the Course Book. - Can I change level if I feel that the level is too easy or too difficult for me?
Yes. If a student has a level that is either lower or higher than the rest of the class, then the student can change the level subject to an interview with the Director of Studies who will liaise with your teacher to ascertain if you could benefit by moving up or down a level.
It is always in the best interest of both students and the school that our students are placed in their corresponding level. To avoid problems it is important that you thoroughly complete our placement test so that we can get the level right from the beginning. - How many different levels are available?
Classes range from Beginner to Advanced levels. - How are your classes conducted?
Our English Courses are "communicative", which means that we teach a mixture of grammar, conversation, reading, writing and listening exercises, while covering a range of practical and relevant topics such as current affairs, business, travel, accommodation, shopping, working, health, jobs vocabulary etc. - Are the teachers native speakers & qualified?
Yes. All of our teachers are native English speakers. They all have a university degree and at least 2 years of experience teaching English to students in Ireland. They are approved by ACELS (Advisory Council for English Language Schools). The school itself is accredited by ACELS (www.acels.ie) and recognised by the Irish Department of Education and Science for the teaching of English as a Foreign Language. - What makes ELA different from other language schools in Dublin?
We are often asked this question. We can only say, that we have qualified and experienced native English teachers. We are in a great location in Dublin, well served by public transport and near to the city centre. We have modern, well-equipped classrooms, and a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. We also offer free tea, coffee, biscuits and free Internet access! We also offer Free Career Guidance when you first arrive. This entails assisting you with your CV and pointing you in the right direction of finding a job. We also offer Courses in Business Studies and Healthcare Support Studies. - What if I get sick during my Course?
If you cannot attend classes because of illness, we cannot compensate you in any way or form. However you can contact the school to get information on what you have missed in class and try and keep up by studying at home. All visa students are required to attend at least 80% of their chosen Course. If you miss any classes because of illness you must present a Medical Certificate from a doctor to explain your absence. - When can I start my Course?
Enrolment for new takes place every Monday except during Christmas and New Year Holidays when the school is closed. On a Bank Holiday Monday you can start on the Tuesday of that week. - How can I book and pay for my English course?
