IMPORTANT INFORMATION THAT WILL AFFECT ALL STUDENTS FROM 20th JANUARY 2016

English Language Academy - Friday, April 08, 2016

Under the new Immigration rules, any students granted the new eight month visa which came into force on the 20th January, 2016, are unable to change their class times, once they start their course.

They are also unable to take holidays unless they have booked them in advance at the start of their course. Holidays must be agreed in advance at the time of booking your course. ELA School Policy is that students must book a minimum of 4 weeks holidays.

Under the new regime, language schools are unable to grant class time changes to students or to grant holiday requests to students if they are not booked in advance. It is outside of our control to allow a student to change class times or take random holidays, once the student is on the new eight month visa.

This information is included on the GNIB website, the ICOS website and has also been in the public domain since May 2015 when it was
first announced by both the Minster for Justice and the Minister for Education through national media. All students are expected to keep up to date with all immigration changes that affect them  as a student in Ireland. This is their  responsibility.

Furthermore, this information is included on the ELA website since June 2015 and is also included in the ELA Student Handbook 2016 which was updated in January 2016 and each student is given a copy of same at the beginning of their course.

Language Schools are not allowed to grant students permission to take holidays or to change class times under the new immigration regime.

Students are allowed to work 20 hours a week while they study and up to 40 hours a week during the months of May, June, July and August and between the 15th December and the 15th of January.
